ALOK
VIRTUAL EVENT

Friday, April 16th  7pm

ALOK (they/them) is an internationally-acclaimed nonbinary performance artist, public speaker, advocate, and educator. Using poetry, comedy, lecture, and design -- their (trans)disciplinary work traverses themes of gender, race, mental health, and fashion. ALOK appeared on HBO's "The Trans List" and "Random Acts of Flyness." They are the author of the poetry book Femme in Public, a meditation on anti-trans harassment, and Beyond the Gender Binary a clarion call for a new approach to gender in the 21st century. In 2019 ALOK was honored as one of NBC's 30 LGBTQ changemakers and one of Out Magazine's Out100.

* This special evening is presented in support of GLSEN’s Day of Silence, a student-led national event where folks take a vow of silence to highlight the silencing and erasure of LGBTQ people at school. Nearly 4 in 5 LGBTQ students don’t see positive LGBTQ representation in their curriculum, nearly 8 in 10 experience verbal harassment, and almost a third miss school for feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. But together we can break the silence of LGBTQ students!

* What is Day of Silence?

The GLSEN Day of Silence is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ students and allies  all around the country—and the world—take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ people in schools.
Started in the mid 90’s by two college students, the Day of Silence has expanded to reach hundreds of thousands of students each year. Every April, students go through the school day without speaking, ending the day with Breaking the Silence rallies and events to share their experiences during the protest and bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.

Day of Silence is on Friday, April 23rd, 2021.

Land Acknowledgement

Picture
Even though we are all coming together from different physical locations for this Virtual Series, it is still important to take a moment and make this meaningful recognition. Our thanks to Indigenous NH Collaborative Collective and the Tectonic Theater Project for their help and inspiration in crafting this vital message.

The Stockbridge Theatre is located on the traditional lands and waterways of the Abenaki, Pennacook and other related Wabanaki Peoples past and present. We acknowledge and honor with gratitude the land itself and the people who have loved and taken care of it throughout the generations. We do this to pay respect and inspire curiosity among non-Native peoples, and make an effort to halt the erasure of Indigenous history. We invite you to join us in supporting Indigenous communities, both locally and globally.
